We Are Hope Church NYC

We are a church that exists to lead people into a transforming relationship with Jesus and a community of faith. Meeting weekly on the Upper West Side, Midtown and the East Village.

Our Story

In 2012, Hope Church NYC began with a dream to start a movement of Christ followers in New York City that would connect people to a transforming relationship with Jesus and a community of faith. Hope is now a church with locations in Midtown, East Village, and the West Side, while having started multiple churches through the New City Network and having baptized hundreds of New Yorkers who have taken new steps of faith in Christ.

Values

1

Authenticity

Authenticity begins when we embrace our common humanity and brokenness. Community results as we honestly and lovingly share who we are with one another.

2

Community

We continually seek to deepen our relationships with God and with one another, because this is where we believe true life and transformation happens.

3

Generosity

We want to celebrate life as often and as loudly as possible. We love that Jesus was the king of dinner parties, and we want to be a community that is known for the fun we contribute to the world.

4

Diversity

Because God gave each of us a different story to live, we find beauty in our diversity, whether cultural, ethnic, gender, or socio-economic. By embracing our common humanity and brokenness, we find that our differences, instead of dividing, only strengthen the vibrancy of our community and faith.

5

Delight

We long to be a counter-cultural community that is marked by radical generosity in everything we do. Whether it’s with our time, talents, or treasures, we want to reflect this value in all our relationships, including with those under-resourced.

6

Mission

We want to share the good news of Jesus Christ through our words and actions whenever possible. We believe starting new churches can make an impact locally and new churches are places where relationships can be nurtured into authentic growing communities.

7

Renewal

We believe that God is at work to heal and renew the world that He created to be good. Our own lives are part of God's renewal process, and God invites us into the work of making all things new by pursuing justice, engaging in social and cultural renewal, and being committed to prayer for the flourishing of NYC.

Our Beliefs

Below are some of our core beliefs. To learn more in-person, join us for our Intro To Hope Dinner.

  • As part of the East Coast Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church denomination, a fellowship of over 800+ churches, we affirm the essential beliefs of Christian faith as expressed through the Apostle's Creed and the Nicene Creed. Central to our beliefs are the following: 1) the centrality of the word of God 2) the necessity of the new birth 3) a commitment to the whole mission of the church 4) the church as a fellowship of believers 5) a conscious dependence on the Holy Spirit 6) the reality of freedom in Christ. We also have a growing partnership with Vineyard USA, a movement of 500+ churches across the U.S. committed to the message and practice of the kingdom of God.

  • We believe that based on the Scriptures, men and women are called to ministry in every capacity according to their character, gifts, calling, and temperament. You can learn more here.

  • We believe that the dynamic work of the Holy Spirit - including signs and wonders and healing - are for today. You can learn more here.

  • You can learn more about our view on sexuality and marriage here.
